Water Watch

Due to the extended heat and drought conditions in our area, Water District 7 is asking customers to observe voluntary water conservation measures.  In December 2011 the Water District implemented Stage 1 (Water Watch) of its Water Conservation Plan, by a directive issued by the Kansas Water Office.  The drought conditions have not improved; therefore, the emphasis of this watch is again being stressed.  The goal of the Water Watch is to heighten awareness of the public on water conditions and to maintain the integrity of the water supply system.

Reduction of outdoor water use is encouraged.  Examples of this would be:

  • Implementing an alternate day (odd/even) schedule for outdoor watering (i.e. residents with even numbered addresses to water on even numbered days; those with odd numbered addresses to water on odd numbered days).

  • Limit outdoor watering to only between 6 PM and 6 AM.

  • Limiting non-essential outdoor water use.

  • Limiting or eliminating outdoor water use on weekends.

  • Using a soaker hose to water plants more efficiently.

  • Avoid hosing down outside areas such as sidewalks, patios and driveways.

The public can also help reduce indoor water use by shortening showers, only washing full loads of dishes and clothes, shutting off the faucet while brushing teeth, and repairing leaky toilets and faucets.

During a drought service lines and water mains are prone to leaks due to movement of the soil.  Please report any areas where water surfaces to the Water District, as this may be indicative of a leak.
